During Thanksgiving Break I saw a Fox News interview with "Osama Bin Ladden's killer". The terms and phrases used to describe Osama Bin Ladden stood out to me, and were charged by an extreme sense of patriotism. Phrases such as "Did you feel like you were in the presence of pure evil" and "Thank you for killing this monster" were used at a frequent pace. This criminalized animalistic reference and description as a "monster" took away from the purpose of the story, and turned the focus of this interview towards seemingly "American Propaganda". It attributed a sense of innocence and victimization in relation to the United States, and functioned to further emphasize and validate the United State's acts of war. Although the actions Osama Bin Ladden are not forgivable, these phrases turned this story into a propaganda tool. When instead its stated purpose was to create a sense of closure for families involved in 9/11.
