The drawing above is depicting idea of illegality towards early settlers of the Americas. The concept that early European settlers were once foreign to this land seems to escape the minds of generations as they have stand against the idea of have illegals come into this country. Why is it although everyone seems to know the history, this idea is kept in the back of people's minds. Europeans foreigners came in vast amounts of groups and were very much welcomed. With the welcomed they quickly learned the natives customs and took control. With no reason they quickly believed to have right of control and use of people, land, and resources. From these actions they quickly integrated the idea of ownership in all further development in all of the America's.
To this day there is still the constant issue of illegal aliens but now it is in a matter of negativity. On the case of the drawing the anger is coming from the racism towards latin america but these views of europeans being foreigners is an idea that comes from different groups in the U.S. Unfortunately this country has a long history with being against all types of foreigners, ignoring the fact that this country has been developed on a foundations of immigrants and foreigners.
Wow! I love the powerful image. I also like how it plays subversively on the hegemonic image of Uncle Sam pointing at potential recruits into the U.S. Army. In this image, the finger-pointing is accusatory and inculpatory. Fantastic find, Giselle.
